I’m sitting in the Board public forum. I’ve heard from a few speakers now that they believe that unless registry operators have the benefit of a presumptive renewal clause in their contracts, they won’t be able to attract or make investment in the DNS because of uncertainty.
There’s a serious problem with this contention.
Verisign invested more in the DNS before they had presumptive renewal, than they did after – in acquiring Network Solutions, the .com registry operator, for $21 *billion*.
So it seems, that in fact, the opposite is true.
